Jim Knight, Minister for Schools and Learners formally launched the Black Country Challenge on 7 May at the New Walsall Art Gallery. Around £28million will be invested (2008-11) to raise standards in schools across Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

At the launch Sir Geoff Hampton, Chief Adviser for the Black Country Challenge, introduced a short film featuring pupils from each of the Black Country Local Authorities. Some of the pupils from the film attended the launch and posed questions to Jim Knight and gave their thoughts on what they would like to see the Challenge achieve.

At the launch, Jim Knight announced a Student Awards Competition to celebrate pupil success with prizes that money can not buy. For more information, go to http://www.theblackcountrychallenge.co.uk/forstudents.php
